U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey

PrintU.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey was established by President Thomas Jefferson in 1807. It's role was to survey the Nation's coastline. The name was changed to U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1878. During a reorganization of federal agencies in 1970, it became part of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration and was renamed the National Geodetic Survey.
