Today is officially the first day of winter (though that may be hard to believe with all of the chilly weather we’ve been having across the U.S.), and so we thought it would be a wonderful time to highlight our most recent addition to the Flickr Commons: a “Winter Wonderland” set.
Made up of winter images from the Smithsonian Institution Archives, this new set demonstrates the breadth of SIA’s collections and contains some gems, including:
- Our famous “Snowflake Bentley” photos of snowflakes, and free crafting templates based on these photos, from which you can make your own snowflake ornaments, cards, tree toppers, etc.
- Expeditions to icy places like Antarctica and Canada’s Northwest Territory.
- Winter revelers and winter storms on the National Mall in early 1900s Washington DC.
- Penguins and seals and bison (in the snow), oh my!
Enjoy our infusion of cold on the Flickr Commons, but keep yourselves warm.
