Happy Trails, Anne Van Camp!

Smithsonian Institution Archives Director, Anne Van Camp, retires.

Color portrait of Anne Van Camp

On January 31, 2018, the Archives bid farewell to our Director, Anne Van Camp.

Anne started at the Archives in March 2007. During her tenure here, the Archives experienced a tremendous period of growth for staff, programs and facilities. Significantly more archival resources are now accessible to our researchers, the Archives is taking the lead on the preservation of the Smithsonian’s digital assets, and we have a new cool and cold storage facility for historical photographic collections, just to name a few things.

Most of all, Anne’s leadership, mentorship, and calm guidance has further enabled the Archives staff to excel. Personally, she has been my role model and champion, and for that am very thankful.

In Anne’s farewell remarks she advised us to have mentors, be patient (but not too patient), and remember that it really is about the people. We will, Anne. And we will endeavor to keep calm and carry on.

Congratulations on your retirement, and happy trails, Anne!
