What do you do?
I am an archivist on the Archives and Information Management Team, at the Smithsonian Institution Archives. I assist Smithsonian staff with managing their records and I prepare collections for use by researchers.
Favorite spot in DC to recommend to visitors:
I enjoy walking on the National Mall during a weekday and seeing the mix of people taking a break from work, and the families and school groups visiting the museums. It reminds me of the times I visited DC when I was growing up.
Collection favorite:
My favorite objects in the Archives are the architectural drawings in Record Unit 92, Prints and Drawings, 1840- and historic photographs in Record Unit 95, Photograph Collection, 1850s- of the Smithsonian buildings. I love architecture, and some of the early drawings are beautiful watercolors, making them works of art by themselves. And the photographs provide a glimpse of what Washington, DC, looked like several generations ago.
