Archives Puzzles: A Walk in the Park

Have a little fun with images from our collections that have been designated as open access. Anyone can now download, transform, share, and reuse millions of images as part of Smithsonian Open Access.

Each Monday, sit back, relax, and ease into the work week with puzzles created from images in our collections that have been designated as open access. Anyone can now download, transform, share, and reuse these images as part of Smithsonian Open Access, launched in 2020.

Last week, we challenged you to complete a puzzle of a 1976 view of the Victorian garden in the South Yard, behind the Smithsonian Castle, that was inspired by the Philadelphia Centennial, held a century earlier. Today, put together the puzzle pieces to explore an image of the gardens from the original centennial in 1876.

This photograph in our collection captures an exterior view of buildings and grounds in Philadelphia, with the Horticultural Hall also in sight. In that building, architects and horticulturalists exhibited ornamental trees and flowers, tools, plans for garden designs, and more.
