Archives Puzzles: Kicking Back Like It’s 1880

This season, have a little fun with images from our collections that have been designated as open access. Anyone can now download, transform, share, and reuse millions of images as part of Smithsonian Open Access.

Each Monday, sit back, relax, and ease into the work week with puzzles created from images in our collections that have been designated as open access. Anyone can now download, transform, share, and reuse these images as part of Smithsonian Open Access, launched in 2020.

Our workweek stance is inspired by this photograph of Henry Horan, Smithsonian’s first Superintendent of Buildings, in the 1880s. Horan’s office was responsible for operating, maintaining, and protecting the Smithsonian's offices, museums, and research facilities. His team also oversaw the security over the museum collections and provided information, directions, and assistance to Smithsonian visitors. Horan held the position from 1880 to 1896.
