Each Monday, sit back, relax, and ease into the work week with puzzles created from images in our collections that have been designated as open access. Anyone can now download, transform, share, and reuse these images as part of Smithsonian Open Access, launched in 2020.
In honor of the anniversary of the groundbreaking of the Arts and Industries Building, then known as the United States National Museum, on April 17, 1879, we challenge you to complete a puzzle featuring the space in 1903.
Completed in 1881, the Museum opened with seventeen separate exhibit sections, which included displays related to geology, metallurgy, zoology, ethnology, comparative technology, navigation, architecture, musical instruments, and historic relics. Explore our web exhibit, Baird’s Dream, to learn about how second Secretary Spencer F. Baird tirelessly advocated for the Smithsonian to open a national museum.
