Summary:

These records, which are from the office of Valerie J. Fletcher, Curator of Sculpture at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (HMSG), primarily document Fletcher's involvement in the planning, research, and installation of the exhibition "Dreams and Nightmares: Utopian Visions in Modern Art" at HMSG in 1983-1984. During the years Fletcher worked on this exhibition, she was Assistant Curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture. The records include loan agreements (with correspondence); correspondence and memoranda pertaining to exhibition planning, funding, publicity, educational outreach, and publications; research files; brochures and exhibition catalogue written by Fletcher; and photographs of the exhibition. The records also include Fletcher's monthly reports, plus additional correspondence and memoranda documenting her various curatorial activities in the Department of Painting and Sculpture and later in the Curatorial Department at HMSG.

Descriptive Entry

These records, which are from the office of Valerie J. Fletcher, Curator of Sculpture at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (HMSG), primarily document Fletcher's involvement in the planning, research, and installation of the exhibition Dreams and Nightmares: Utopian Visions in Modern Art at HMSG in 1983-1984.
