These records consist primarily of the correspondence files of the Department for fiscal years 1987-1989, divided into separate series for museums, people, organizations, and international correspondence. Also included is a chronological file of staff memoranda and some miscellaneous correspondence of Curator Robert C. Mikesh, circa 1981-1986.

Historical Note

Edmund T. Wooldridge, Jr., served as Chairman of the Department of Aeronautics, 1983-1986. Von D. Hardesty became Acting Chairman in 1986 and then Chairman until July, 1987, when Donald S. Lopez became Acting Chairman, serving 1987-1988. In 1989 Dominick A. Pisano was appointed Acting Chairman.
