Summary:

This accession consists of records documenting the expeditions to China led by Carl Whiting Bishop. The February 20, 1923 through August 6, 1927 expedition was a joint effort between the Freer Gallery of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The November 16, 1929 through April 11, 1934 expedition was sponsored by the Freer Gallery of Art. The purpose of the expeditions were to create a Chinese government-approved cooperation between the American and Chinese scientific and archaeological communities. Materials include receipts, some written in Chinese.

Descriptive Entry

This accession consists of records documenting the expeditions to China led by Carl Whiting Bishop.
