This accession consists of the "Leafsnap: An Electronic Field Guide" website as it existed on April 23, 2015. The website accompanies a downloadable mobile application of the same name which uses visual recognition software to help identify tree species from photographs of their leaves. The initial application only contains species in the northeastern United States and was jointly developed by Columbia University, the University of Maryland, and the National Museum of Natural History, Department of Botany. This website includes information about the tree species included in the mobile application as well as the team of research volunteers working to produce it. Due to technical issues, most of the website's images could not be captured and this accession consists primarily of text. Data may be incomplete. Materials are in electronic format.
