Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the letter by which you inform me that the Members of the Columbian Institute have deigned to confer upon me the favor of being a Resident Member of the scientific association.
I accept, with the highest sense of gratitude, so distinguished a mark of kindness; & as much as it will not interfere with the time I shall bestow upon professional duties, I make a tender of my feeble means to the class of Mathematical Sciences.
I have received the Constitutional Ordinance by which the Institute is governed, I will conform to it.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
very respectfully,
your obedient servant
