A jaunt into the country for the recovery of my health prevented my sooner acknowledging your polite communication of the 7th ulto.
Be pleased, Sir, to return my best thanks to the Columbian Institute for the promotion of Arts and Sciences, for the honour they have conferred upon me, in electing me a resident member of their honourable body. The best exertions of my feeble powers shall always be exerted in promoting the ends of the Institute.
I have the honour to be very respectfully
Sir
Your most obedn. Servt.
