Summary

This collection consists of 16 field books of Hernando García Barriga from collecting trips in Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. The materials consist of small travel journals and collection notebooks. The travel journals include García Barriga's notes on observations of plants, crops, vegetation, and local cultures (including villages and industry). They also include altitudes and distances between locations, and many have hand-drawn maps showing routes. The collection notebooks include lists of plants collected with collector number and brief entry (usually scientific name, locality, date, and physical description of specimen). Some entries include local common names of plants. One field book consists primarily of pairing scientific names of plants with common Colombian plant names. Materials also include notes, scientific illustrations, specimens, clippings, and photographs. All of the materials are in Spanish.
