Summary

Perspective of North East Tower of the Main Block of the Romanesque Scheme. This drawing was drafted by the architect James Renwick Jr. and depicts his Romanesque scheme of the Smithsonian Institution Building. This drawing was reproduced by wood engraving and was used for plate nine in Robert Dale Owen's "Hintson Public Architecture," published in 1846 as a description of the building's plans and architectural style. James Renwick, Jr. began his design with a Gothic castle and eventually reworked it into a Romanesque castle. This later design won the competition in 1846.
