- This accession consists of records documenting the joint expedition made by the Freer Gallery of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, from February 20, 1923 to August 6, 1927, and also the Freer Gallery of Art sponsored expedition from November 16, 1929 to April 11, 1934. Both expeditions were led by Carl Whiting Bishop, Associate Curator, 1929-1934, and were designed to create a Chinese government-approved cooperation between the Chinese and American scientific and archeological communities. Field assistants and other members of the expeditions included Archibald Gibson Wenley, Kuang-zung Tung, Li Chi, Daisy Furscott Bishop, and Elise Wenley. Descriptive Entry
This accession consists of records documenting the joint expedition made by the Freer Gallery of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, from February 20, 1923 to August 6, 1927, and also the Freer Gallery of Art sponsored expedition from November 16, 1929 to April 11, 1934. Both expeditions were led by Carl Whiting Bishop, Associate Curator, 1929-1934, and were designed to create a Chinese government-approved cooperation between the Chinese and American scientific and archeological communities.
