The following year, in 1996, the Provost assumed responsibility for administering the fund, with Schneider serving as Executive Assistant for the Program. The records consist of correspondence and memoranda pertaining to awards, rejections, and budgetary matters. Also included are SEF proposals, program guidelines, funding reports, award schedules, material documenting the annual Smithsonian Exhibition Award Ceremony, and SEF Committee information

This accession consists of records that document the Special Exhibition Fund (SEF) that distributes grants for significant exhibitions at the Smithsonian.
