Abstract

The photograph album documents Alexander Wetmore's work in Venezuela and Curaçao [Netherlands Antilles]. Alexander Wetmore traveled to the Amazonas territory of Venezuela in 1954 to take part in a ornithological expedition sponsored by William H. Phelps. Photographs include numbers, date, and caption with description and location. Subject matter includes views from the yacht Ornis; harbors; fisherman working on netting in Curaçao; examples of terrain (shorelines, lagoons, countryside); aerial photographs of Amazonas territory; the plane used over the Amazonas; expedition travel down the rivers of Amazonas; members preparing specimens; and camp sites. Locations include the vicinity of Willemstad (island of Curaçao), and (Venezuela) Aragua, Chichiriviche, Río Yatua. Includes photographs of Wetmore, Beatrice Thielen Wetmore, James H. Kempton, Kathleen D. Phelps, and William H. Phelps, Jr.
