Abstract

The diary of 1935 includes notes and station data kept by Waldo LaSalle Schmitt on the Hancock Galapagos Expedition. The notebook is prestamped with dates, but many of these have been crossed out for other types of entries. Most entries are short, listing a specimen number (364-487), indicated activity (i.e. dredging) and time of day, and sometimes information about collecting environment (i.e. reef, tide pool), location and sometimes a description. There is more than one numerical series (306-362)in the notebook. Includes maps with notes. After number 487, entries appear to be chronological and match the date printed. Entries detail daily activities, individuals seen and worked with, expenses, Some entries are extensive in text, but can writing sometimes illegible. much of the second half of the notebook is blank. November 23 - December 25, include temperature and barometric readings.
