Biographical History

Roger B. Clapp conducted work with the Smithsonian Institution's Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program, circa 1962-1969, where he banded pelagic birds at sea. Clapp serves as a museum specialist in the Curatorial Project of the Biological Survey Unit of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and assists with the curation and management of the North American Bird Collections. Duties include the acquisition, identification, preparation, and care of specimens, making loan transactions, providing information for information requested, and adding, updating and maintaining computerized records. Duties also include participation in field research and publication of findings. Roger's active project is working with the breeding birds of Virginia. Accomplishments and achievements include curation of the North American Vertebrate Collections at the Smithsonian Institution: selected species of North American Birds, and review of avian interaction with periodical cicadas.
