I love the simplicity of the green wreaths and red ribbons at Arlington, where my father lies.

Maureen- I agree--it's so striking, and poignant, to see so many wreaths and ribbons lined up across so many rows.
I dont know, somehow seeing a cemetery is a picture of grief, it's about loss and separated from our loved ones ... but in many cases, the cemetery is often become a tourist attraction and has its own charm ... if you've seen or even visit, in Tana Toraja - Indonesia is famous for its king's stone grave...
I have not had the opportunity to visit Tana Toraja, although I did live in Indonesia for a number of years and have seen many pictures. While there I was able to witness a few Balinese funerals, the ceremonies for which were very moving and elaborate. It's interesting to see, cross-culturally and over time, what kinds of burial practices we have in common and the reverence we share for our loved ones.
